Urban Pedagogue to Principal Pipeline™

Teacher Leading Discussion

From classroom expertise to leadership readiness

A research-based process to identify, prepare, and support urban teacher leaders on the path to the principalship while coaching principals to mentor well and strengthening the systems that sustain leadership development.

Who It’s For

Districts and school networks interested in building a reliable bench of future principals for urban schools.

The Challenge We Solve

Districts need a steady bench of future principals, grounded in instruction, culture, and equity, without guessing who’s “ready.” UP³ replaces hunches with evidence, clear growth plans, principal mentoring rhythms, and a district-level view of the pipeline.

What UP³ Is

The Urban Pedagogue to Principal Pipeline™ is a research-based process that helps districts grow principals from the classroom up. We combine voice and data collection, strength mapping, and targeted practice to produce practical growth plans for each emerging leader and the systems that surround them. Alongside the teacher-leader pathway, we coach current principals to mentor effectively, run consistent feedback cycles, and align opportunities to readiness, so the pipeline advances on purpose, not by chance.

How UP³ Works (4 Steps)

Discover

We listen first. Short interviews, voice and data review, campus walks, and role analyses reveal your current strengths and gaps. Together, we define clear readiness indicators and 3–5 priority competencies to guide the work.

1

Profile & Plan

Each candidate receives a Leadership Readiness Profile plus an Individual Growth Plan with specific, observable goals, success metrics, and supports. Leaders know exactly what “good” looks like and how to demonstrate it.

2

Mentor & Practice

Principals get a plug-and-play Mentoring Toolkit: feedback scripts, look-fors, calendarized coaching cycles, and shadowing pathways aligned to goals. We focus on deliberate practice and rapid feedback so habits form and stick.

3

Align & Sustain

Principal and teacher leaders complete the UP³ online course for shared learning and PLU credit (or equivalent). You receive a concise closeout summary with recommended next steps, scale options, and a simple 90-day sustain plan.
